LONG OVERDUE CATCHUP – APPLES, VINEYARDS AND FIZZ!

Hello from White Heron Estate. Well, here we are in October 2024 – how on earth did that happen? There’s lots to report… where to begin? A lot has happened in the last few years – but even with a pandemic, wars and a tough economic climate, we are grateful to still be here in Herefordshire doing our best to improve our little corner of the world, by producing food in as ecologically responsible a way as we know how. On the farming front, we’re mid-way through the apple harvest and there are apples everywhere you look. It smells truly wonderful around the place – the caramelly, cidery fragrance of the apples makes your mouth water. The estate is bathed in golden autumn light (well, that’s when it’s not raining, but stay with us…) It’s busy, busy, with apples being shaken from the trees, scraped into rows, scooped up by the picking machines, tipped into a bath, washed, scooped up and piled up to be taken off to Heineken or Aspall’s to be turned into delicious cider. You’ll be really happy to know that we’re also harvesting grapes for our delicious White Heron Estate sparkling wine – check on our White Heron Drinks website for details! In other news, we are delighted that our White Heron Properties have been selected as a Finalist in the inaugural Visit Herefordshire Tourism Awards and are very proud of our whole team whose hard work has resulted in this nomination. We’ve also achieved superhost status on Airbnb for the 4th time running. OK enough of the boasting, we’ve got lots of run-of-the-mill jobs to do, like stocking up on wood and chipping it for the biomass boilers to heat the holiday homes so that all of our guests can be warm and cosy this winter. We look forward to catching up with you all soon.
