As summer is officially over, we eagerly anticipate the warm hug that Autumn brings. Whether it's the dramatic change of scenery, romantic misty mornings or early darkness that encourages us to sit and relax by the fire, autumn is a truly rich and beautiful season to enjoy.
No more so than in Herefordshire where the apple harvest comes to fruition and the richness of the fruit hangs heavy in the air, giving a constant reminder of the rural history of this cider making county. If you’re staying at White Heron Properties, then it’s likely that you are a lover of the countryside and walking is the way to enjoy it at its best. Kington is holding its annual walking festival and is close to the Whittern Estate. The historic drovers’ town of Kington stands is a walker's paradise with more long-distance paths converging on the town than almost anywhere else in the UK. There are walks for all abilities, so the whole family can join!

The Weir in Herefordshire is a riverside garden worth visiting in any season. In Autumn a visit to the walled garden is a must. Even on cold winter days there are things to spot in this beautiful countryside haven. The National Trust also holds lots of events here that are worth checking on their website – from tai chi classes and artist open days to gentle guided walks and family fun days.

Can’t wait to get in the Christmas spirit? Then a trip to one of Herefordshire’s jewels the Weston Cidery at Much Marcle. Come and meet the reindeers, stroll around the produce and gift stalls and sing Christmas carols around the tree, with the local choir. Enjoy a hot mulled cider and a complimentary mince pie- you’re guaranteed a good time!
